Chia Seeds vs Basil Seeds(Sabja)
- Chia seeds are originated and cultivated in central and southwest Mexico. It is obtained from the plant Salvia Hispanica which belongs to mint family
- Basil seeds which are also known as Sabja in Hindi. It is originated and cultivated in Indian Mediterranean region. It is obtained from the plant Lamiaceae which also belongs to the mint family.
Previously both the seeds were used for garnishing and for making desserts but in the past few years, Chia seeds and Basil seeds got so much popularity for their health benefits and medicinal properties.
Chia seeds are commonly available in tricolor mixture brown, white and gray or you can also find them in brown and white color only. Basil seeds (sabja) are available in jet black color only.
Chia seeds are oval in shape and Basil seeds are elliptical in shape.
After Soaking In The Water
Chia seeds take the time to swell up in the water and expand 10 times of its original quantity after absorbing water, on the other hand, basil seeds swell up in less than 5 minutes and it expands twice of chia seeds after absorbing water. Basil seeds become white in color after soaking water while chia seeds become translucent after absorbing water and no changes in color.
After swelling up chia seeds become very slimy in texture and if you do not mix it properly it can forms lumps while Basil seeds do not have such tendency.
Chia seeds do not have any taste while Basil seeds have a light flavor of its own and it is little crunchier than Chia seeds.
Chia seeds can be eaten raw and soaked in both way but Basil seeds can only be eaten soaked because it swells and expands a lot when it comes in the contact with water so it can expand between your intestine and give you big health issues.
Chia seeds are super food and basil seeds are very close to chia seeds that you can easily replace them if you do not have the access to chia seeds.
For Thyroid and PCOS/PCOD
Chia seeds have all the essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which show tremendous improvement in thyroid/hypothyroidism and PCOS/PCOD and Basil seeds have essential minerals like magnesium and potassium which are very effective in POCS/PCOD. It contains minerals like copper, Iron and other essential oils so it is also very effective for thyroid.
Chia seeds are loaded with vitamins and minerals. It has calcium in it which is 4-5 times more than milk. It contains Iron which is twice than 100 gm spinach. It contains 23 % of protein which is higher than many traditional food items. It is a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acid and it has zero cholesterol. It is loaded with antioxidant properties & B vitamins. It has high dietary fiber.
Basil seeds are also loaded with vitamins and minerals like potassium, manganese, magnesium, copper, and calcium it is also a rich source of vitamin A and K, beta carotene, and lutein, zeaxanthin (which are good for eye related problems). It also contains polyphenolic flavonoids which work as antioxidant and prevents you from diseases like allergy, viral and cancer and also works as an anti-inflammatory. It also promotes healthy cholesterol level.
Good For Diabetes
Chia Seeds: Due to its galley formation it slower the conversion of carbohydrates into sugar which helps to maintain your sugar level & controls your diabetes.
Basil seeds also work in the same way for to control your diabetes.
Both the seeds are rich in dietary fiber and absorb lots of water which make it very heavy to suppress your appetite thus it helps you with amazing weight loss.
